A purse is an extension of many a woman’s right arm – far more than just a place to stash one’s cell phone and car keys. If you’re smart, the contents of your purse can save the day.

Whether you’re the type who stuffs the entire solar system into your purse or the type who likes to keep it light and simple, there are a few items which are universally essential to every purse. Here are ten must-haves which you need to find space for in your handbag if you don’t have them already!

Lipstick

Always carry an emergency lipstick with you, always. A lipstick can perk up your face even after the worst meeting at work or most exhausting lunch with your family. Having your favorite shade of lipstick also gives you that much needed confidence boost.

Also, this easy-to-use product makes it look like you tried to get out of bed in the morning, even if, in reality, you’re a zombie.

Mad money

Keep an extra wallet in your purse with just some spare notes in case you lose your credit card or wallet. This will keep you from the desperate calls to family members and friends looking for someone who can give you a ride home.

Tampons or Pads

You don’t want to be running around, whispering questions about spare pads or tampons at office, because, and let’s be honest, men know what it means when women begin whispering urgently out of the blue – the creeps. Keep these with you at all times, maybe you can even help someone.

Baby Wipes

Baby wipes come in handy in so many situations which don’t involve an actual baby. Whether you need to fix a make-up disaster or refresh yourself. You might even need two packets of these in your bag.

Asprin

Headaches can hit you out of the blue, and just take you down in the middle of the worst of social situations. An asprin like Saridon can give you the relief you need until you get home. You know what they say, Saridon, sar dard se aaram.

A Pen

How many times have you run around, desperately asking for a pen while on the phone or repeating a series of numbers in your head? How many times have you promised yourself to actually keep a pen handy? How many times have you done it?

Keep a pen in your purse and let it stay there, and don’t let anyone borrow it. This way you can avoid so many episodes of paranoia.

Emergency Contact Information

You probably have a lock on your phone, and even if you don’t, it’ll be hard for people to figure out who your emergency contacts are. Always keep a card with your emergency contact information ready, just in case you get into an accident, arrested or even in case you lose your entire purse (and you’re lucky because they want to return it)!

Pepper spray

This day and age makes carrying a pepper spray within arm’s reach essential. Don’t let this end up at the bottom of your bag. Maybe even practice pulling it out swiftly. But remember to think before you use it, you could end up getting into trouble and hurting an innocent person very badly.

Also, never ever ever spray it just to “check it out” unless you want to sneeze for hours and lock up the room of your little experiment for days.

Hand sanitizer

You might think that hand sanitizers are just for the obsessively health conscious, but using this before every meal can really keep the doctor away. It does work, and saves you a trip to the washroom (and let’s face it, washroom’s are light years away).

Lighters

You might not smoke, but these do come in handy. It may be rarely, but finding matches can be even harder. Because, let’s face it, matches are usually what everyone forgets after buying a huge cake for someone’s party. And it might even come handy if you end up in a horror movie, I don’t think a ghost can beat a lighter.
