Sangareddy: The district police cracked a highway dacoity case involving Rs 50 lakh cash stolen from a car on the busy NH 65 at 8 pm on December 7. They arrested four of the accused and recovered the stolen money.

Shaikh Osman, father of Shaikh Isak, the complainant, is a businessman who collects cotton from farmers around Sadasivpet and sells it in mills located in Gujarat. During the course, crores of rupees are transported from Banjara Hills to Sadasivpet regularly during the season.

On December 7, Isak, along with Shaikh Nissar, Shaikh Gaffar and driver Ashfaq were bringing Rs 50 lakh from Banjara Hills to Sadasivpet, when their Skoda car bearing number plate AP 31 AW 7711 was intercepted by a Ford Icon with no number plate near Kavalampet village near Sangareddy.

Four assailants got out of the car and threw red chilli powder on the faces of the people travelling in Skoda, beat them up and fled with the money. A case was registered and seven police teams were formed to arrest the culprits. The police examined the footage of all CCTV cameras stationed at Banjara Hills, but could not find a lead as they did not spot any car following Isak’s car from the city.

According to the police, on December 9, when they were conducting checks near MNR Hospital in Fasalwadi, the passengers of a numberless car, Imran, Atiq, Javed and Mustafa tried to break the police cordon and flee but they were chased and arrested. On being interrogated, Imran revealed the plan of looting the money which was hatched by Ashfaq, the driver of Isak. Rehman, another accused allegedly took orders from Ashfaq, who informed him about the exact locations of Skoda while on the way to Sadasivpet.

The police recovered Rs 50 lakh which was stolen by them. Ashfaq’s accomplice Rehman is still absconding. Addressing the media persons on Wednesday, B Sumathi, Superintendent of Police appreciated the efforts of all the officers involved in cracking the case, especially the crime staff of Sadasivpet, Patancheru and Sangareddy.
