Khammam: Village Revenue Officers Welfare Association welcomed the High Court judgment given on Monday regarding the village revenue system.

Addressing a press meet at Panchayat Raj Ministerial Employees Union office, Association state president G Upender said that they have been fighting for the establishment of the Revenue offices in the villages since a long time.

The present revenue system dates back to British period and should be changed as per present times and system. As per the population ratio – 2011, one Revenue Cluster should be appointed for every 2,500 members.

He said that both political and social problems will arise if VROs live in rented houses in villages. The government must take initiation for the construction of special quarters for VROs and Tahsildars at Mandal headquarters.

Despite working 24 hours a day, discharging 67 types of duties in villages as government representatives, some of the political leaders and people’s representatives were criticising and insulting the VROs.

By paying the travelling expenses of Rs 2,000 per month, corruption can be prevented in the revenue department. The number of VROs and Tahsildars could be increased by increasing the mandals in every district, he added.

‘On behalf of the VROs’ welfare association, we decided to extend our support to Advocate Satyam Reddy by consulting and giving some valuable suggestions,’ he added.

VROs’ Welfare Association leaders T Ashok Kumar, S Rama Rao, S K Nagul Meer, S K Johni Miya, Daravath Bhaskar, B Srinu, Balaiah and Venkateshwarlu were present along with others in the
press meet.
