Hyderabad: The ruling TRS has a secret understanding with MIM, BJP and TDP, alleged the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka here on Wednesday. “Though several leaders including two Chief Ministers have visited the University of Hyderabad campus in connection with the death of Dalit scholar Rohit Vemula, the Telangana Chief Minister has maintained an uncharacteristic silence over the issue lest the BJP could be annoyed,” he claimed.
He was speaking at a press conference held by the Telangana State Union of Working Journalists and the Hyderabad Union of Journalists on the topic of GHMC elections. He released the elections slogan of Congress party “Save Hyderabad-Save Brand Image” at the event and said the party would announce the name of the mayoral candidate at an appropriate time.
The Congress leader said the brand image of Hyderabad would lose its sheen if these parties (TRS, MIM, BJP and TDP) won the coming mayoral elections. He claimed that the city would be in danger if the BJP or MIM came to power as they were known for their politics of hatred. He also had cautioned against the ruling TRS coming to power. “The TRS leader K T Rama Rao is speaking like a monarch and the ruling party is resorting to opportunistic politics for the sake of votes,” he alleged.
Making it clear that the Congress party was not politicising the scholar’s death, Vikramarka said the suicide was unfortunate and painful. He made light of the BJP allegations that the political parties are using the incident for their political gains and said it was the BJP that always rake up the issues for its political survival.
Responding to a question, Vikramarka said the government was able to maintain an uninterrupted power supply to the city at the cost of farmers. He said such power supply was possible because 24 lakh pump sets were not working in the state as the farmers are not cultivating crops due to lack of rains. The TRS government did nothing for the city in past 18 months except erecting large hoardings, he rued.
