Daira Centre for Arts and Culture, Banjara Hills, is hosting an art exhibition by Sangamesh S Chillshetty and Shashikant G Patil. This exhibition was inaugurated by Bairu Raghuram, senior artist on June 12.

Karnataka-based artist Sangamesh Chillshetty had a keen interest in art since childhood. Sangamesh has presented his artistic innovations in acrylic colours on canvas. He has actively participated in several exhibitions and art camps and won laurels earlier for his creative endeavours. He has displayed 17 works in the current expo.

His present theme ‘Dream II’ is about lovers (couples) and it portrays his thought-provoking realism and expressive specialities leading to the rare display of intimacy, love and involvement normally prevalent and semi-realistic figures and use of apt colour tones.

His skilful presentation is quite impressive and amazing. As a result, the simplicity and realism in his work stand out as the genuine artistic values and standards in their presentation captivating one and all due to their rare sentimentalism and pragmatism.

Bull as a subject has been an inspiration for Artist Shashikant G Patil since his student days. He had displayed around 15 paintings in the exhibition.

He explains, “My painting theme is ‘Unicorn’ which defines ‘Bull’, which is a symbol of power, strength, resurrection, masculinity, fertility and impulsiveness. Bulls are also emblems of tyranny, ferocity, stubbornness and lust.”

The black and white colour contrasts seemingly infiltrate and throw their shadows onto one another. The warm yellow inspired by the Sunflower fields dotting the natural landscape in my hometown signifies hope and energy,” he adds.

All his work has been done in acrylic on canvas. The bull, a symbol of male sexuality, is the driving force of attainment in many symbolic systems and the artist in this series is suggesting parallels between the life of a bachelor and that of the bull.

Shashikant shares, “I find awful galaxy-like spaces for the bull to play and flaunt, it is enormous. These are personified with my emotions and gestures. This bull sails in the painting boarded on the cloud; another bull looks up with ambition and envy.”
