Now, Nirbhaya App For Women In Trouble To Directly Connect To Police: Noida. A mobile app – “Nirbhaya@Noida: Be fearless!” – which was conceptualized by the Uttar Pradesh police three months ago will be launched in Noida soon, after which it will be soon expanded to other cities in the state.

On May 15th and 16th, when the trial runs of the app were conducted, a woman was “abducted” at Sector 49 in Noida and rescued by the policemen within 15 minutes every time. In June, after the successful trial runs are complete, the app will be available to thousands of school, college and working women in Noida. The app is expected to be available in Lucknow from July.
The app is named Nirbhaya after the pseudonym given to the paramedical student whose gang-rape in Delhi provoked global outrage and sparked a national movement for stronger laws to protect women.
The user who wishes to download the app will have to provide her home address, up to five emergency contact numbers, and register her own mobile number. The database will be connected with the Noida police control.
On sending an SOS signal from one's phone, the user’s location will be traced with the GPS data, mobile tower information, and location area code. A notification will immediately be dispatched to Noida SSP and a local circle officer for monitoring the response time. Alerts will be sent out to cops every few minutes or if the location of the distress signal changes by 300 meters.
The project also aims to develop Bluetooth devices and wearable accessories that can be paired with the phone to send out an SOS.
The app will have an edge over similar applications available in the private domain because it is directly connected to police databases.
