​Hyderabad: Governor ESL Narasimhan rushed to New Delhi on Wednesday in the wake of intensified agitation for the special category status by the TDP and YSRC from AP and TS parties’ resolve to mount pressure on the Centre to fulfill all the long-pending promises.

On the instructions of the Union government, the Governor flew off to the national capital from Bengaluru where he was on personal visit in the morning. He met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and briefed him on the fresh political developments in the two states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is learnt that the Governor also called on President Ram Nath Kovind.

Sources said that the Governor informed the Central authorities the intensification of struggle for special status launched by the ruling TDP and Opposition YSR Congress in Andhra and people’s support to the agitations. The overwhelming response to the ongoing YS Jagan’s padayatra, BJP’s attempt to counter TDP’s Dharma Porata Deekshas and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s political strategy to emerge as the protagonist of the special category status.

Narasimhan also informed about the increasing Congress’ political activity in Andhra Pradesh mainly the recent joining of former Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in the Congress and the special attention paid by the AICC to strengthen Telangana Congress. Sources said that the Governor was asked to update the Home ministry on the political developments taking place in the two states till the end of the Parliament session.

Though it was a courtesy call, the Governor shared his views on politics in Telugu states with the President in a brief meeting and the status of the fulfillment of the promises made under the AP Reorganisation Act mainly the bifurcation of the High Court and the pending assets distribution between the two states.
