Kurnool: District Collector, G Veera Pandiyan said the incessant rains in the district for five days have witnessed Rs.670 crores destruction. While addressing media persons here on Friday, the Collector gave the details of property and other damages in the district.

He said that 119 villages and 70,000 people in all mandals of Nandyal constituency were completely affected by the rains. As many as 45 relief camps were set up besides taking care of food, water and medicines.

The rains have fully damaged 200 houses, 100 huts and 600 partially damaged. Roads (758 roads) pertaining to R&B and Panchayat Raj across the district worth Rs.550 crores were damaged. For temporary repairing Rs.22 crores and for permanent repairs Rs.565 crores are needed, he stated.

Crops in 3,000 hectares were damaged completely and a report on the damage to crops and residents will be sent to government, he said. Necessary facilities are being arranged at Chenchu gudems which were affected due to rains.

The ITDA and DTWO departments have been asked to take up relief measures. He urged the residents of low lying areas to shift to relief camps as the rains are likely to continue another three days. Fagging is being done at all places to save people from falling prey to Malaria and other diseases.
