8,300 cr Vizag Metro to be taken up in III phases: Botcha Satyanarayana

Visakhapatnam: Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Botcha Satyanarayana announced on Saturday that Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project will be taken up in three phases during which work on corridors in different routes would be commenced. The main corridor would be from Kurmanapalem to Madhurawada. While one route will go to East Point Colony, the other to Old Post Office, the Minister stated.

Surveying the different routes for the project, the Minister stated that a comprehensive plan would soon be readied to take up the metro rail project in the city at an estimated cost of Rs 8,300 crore.

Further, he mentioned that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was according top priority to developing Visakhapatnam on the lines of Mumbai and Chennai.

As per the instructions of the Chief Minister, the flyover being constructed at NAD Junction will eliminate traffic woes, Satyanarayana said. He also instructed the officials concerned to hasten up the ongoing development works, including the beautification of the beach.

The Minister instructed the officials concerned to review the progress of development of Visakhapatnam every month. Amaravati Metro Rail project Managing Director Ramakrishna Reddy has been entrusted the project of Vizag Metro as well who will now prepare the plan of action for the project here.

Initially, Gajuwaka to Kommadi, Gurudwara to Thatichetlapalem and Waltair corridors would be developed. Later, Pendurti, Anakapalle, Anandapuram and Bhogapuram will get the metro connectivity. The project cost, financial availability and time involved will be taken into account, the Minister added.

Satyanarayana was accompanied by Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao, VMRDA Chairman Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, GVMC Commissioner G Srijana, MP M V V Satyanarayana and District Collector V Vinay Chand, among others.
