941 panchayats to go for polls in Nellore district

Nellore: District Collector MV Seshagiri Babu said that elections will be conducted for 941 panchayats out of 946 in the district. He addressed the media in the city on Thursday and said there will be no election for Potupalem in Gudur, Chillakur and North Mopuru, Singapet and Allur in Allur mandal.

He said they have arranged 8,969 polling centres in 8,842 wards across the district. There are 16.01 lakh voters in the district in which 8.13 lakhs are women. For 552 MPTC seats, 2,832 candidates have filed nominations.

For 46 ZPTC seats, they had received 330 nominations. They had also arranged 1,983 polling stations for the territorial constituency polls in 46 mandals.

Collector further said they had identified 1,345 sensitive polling centres, 897 hypersensitive centres in the district and the rest 6,727 are normal and 5,197 ballot boxes are ready and they requested the State Election Commission for the supply of 2,600 additional ballot boxes. polls in the district.
