AgriGold victims get 24 crore govt relief: Deputy CM Alla Nani
Eluru: The State government has sanctioned Rs 24 crore towards relief to 32,000 depositors of AgriGold private firm which duped more than 3.7 lakh investors to the tune of several hundreds of crores of rupees all over the state.
Out of total 1.5 lakh victims in West Godavari district, the sum was released to bring succor to victims who deposited Rs 10,000 or less in the first phase. At a function organized here on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Alla Nani handed over the cheque to the AgriGold victims.
Speaking on the occasion, he alleged that the previous TDP government had tried to encroach on the assets of the AgriGold rather than addressing the problems of the AgriGold victims. Many poor and middle class people had deposited in the AgriGold established in 1995.
After the organisation closed in 2015, as many as 364 depositors and agents died of depression. The company with Rs 10,000 crore assets was shut down because of faulty policies of the erstwhile TDP government, he alleged.
The government led by Chief Minister Jagan was committed to do justice to the victims and would release funds for victims who deposited between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 in the second phase.
MLA Eliza said that nowhere in the country, a State government released funds to help victims who deposited in a private firm and lost. The credit for this help goes to the Chief Minister, he claimed. District Collector R Muthyala Raju and others were present.
