Andhra Pradesh legislative council chairman accepts Pothula Sunitha's resignation
The chairman of the legislative council, Sharif, accepted Pothula Sunitha's resignation. She resigned as a member of the Legislative Council last month and sent a letter to the Chairman in protest of the anti-people policies of the TDP. She alleged that for the last 15 months, TDP, Chandrababu and his son Lokesh have been obstructing the courts at every step against the interests of BC, SC, ST and minority communities in the state. She said that she had decided to resign to stand in support of the continuing YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's rule aimed at BC, SC, ST, minority welfare and development in the state.
Pothula Sunita was previously in TDP. In the 2014 elections, she contested from Chirala of Prakasam on behalf of the TDP and lost. After that where Amanchi Krishna Mohan, who won as an MLA there, joined the TDP, which led Chandrababu to give Sunita a chance to be an MLC. Before the 2019 elections, Amanchi joined the YSRCP while Sunitha remained in the TDP. However, she has been supporting the YSRCP from few months.
With this, the TDP lodged a complaint with the Chairman of the Legislative Council seeking disqualification. An inquiry is underway. It was in this context that Sunita resigned from her post. It remains to be seen who will be given a chance again. Recently, the son of the late MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao was offered a chance to become an MLC. There is a debate going on whether she will be given this chance again.
