Chittoor and Nellore districts are worst hit due to cyclone Nivar with normal life disrupted

Cyclone Nivar is having a severe impact on Nellore and Chittoor districts with Swarnamukhi river in Naidupet has been inundated due to heavy rains over the past two days. With the heavy rains on upper areas Naidupet, Chittoor, Tirupati, Kalahasti areas, the Swarnamukhi river is being flooded hour by hour. Vigilant authorities and police reached the Swarnamukhi river and urged the people not to go near the river bank and the bridge. However, it is predicted the bridge is in danger of sinking and traffic to Naidupet, Menakuru Industrial Estate and Venkatagiri will be disrupted if the cyclone continues further.

Nellore district SP Bhaskar Bhushan visited the victims whose houses were destroyed in Jayalalithaa Nagar due to fall of trees amid rains. He talked to the local 48 ward in-charge and found the details. He was accompanied by DSP Srinivas Reddy, CIs Madhu Babu, Anwar Bhasha, SIs Subani, Srihari and other officers. Speaking on the occasion, SP said that thousands of people across the district have been shifted to safer areas.

While the district Collector Bharat Gupta said relief operations were continuing on a war foot in the cyclone-affected areas in Chittoor district. "So far 1600 people have been evacuated to safer areas; Srikalahasti, Satyavedu and Nagari constituencies were the worst hit. We have taken all precautions against the ponds which are in danger," collector said.

On the other hand, the department of disaster said that the threat of cyclone Nivar has not yet been eliminated. It said that the cyclone will weaken within 6 hours turning into deep depression followed by turning into low pressure within 6 hours.
