Update: 2020-02-04 17:47 IST

Professor Kancha Ilaiah has said on Tuesday that the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh has every right to relocate the capital of the state and there are no stakes for anyone in this matter. However, he said that the farmer concerns need to be addressed.

"Thousands of acres accumulated for the capital are still lying vacant, and Chandrababu can't develop the Amaravati," Ilaiah asserted. He said that the government should fulfil its promises made to the farmers who gave lands by compensating them either with plots or with financial assistance. He said farmers should be paid Rs 50,000 per year for the next fifteen years.

He also took a dig at centre stating that giving citizenship on religious grounds to be wrong. "It is not the right way to talk about the attires of Muslim who are protesting; isn't the dress worn by the Prime Minister a Muslim attire," Ilaiah opined.
