Collector calls for accountability to Red Cross spending

Eluru: West Godavari District Collector R Muthyala Raju has directed the officials to ensure accountability for funds being spent through Red Cross Society. Presiding over Red Cross Society district managing committee meeting here, the Collector said every work taken up by the Red Cross should have identity and people should recognise it.

When people are convinced about the services of Red Cross, they would come forward to donate liberally for it, he said. The Collector asked the officials to crosscheck whether the blood taken from Red Cross on the indent from government hospital is being used for genuine patient or not.

Both officials of hospital and Red Cross should confirm on the same. The meeting decided to approach ONGC and SBI on upgrading of blood bank equipment at a cost of Rs 49.85 lakh and ambulance under corporate social responsibility with Rs 17.5 lakh.
