Eluru: Probe ordered into damaged body in mortuary
Eluru: Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health Alla Nani has said that stern action would be taken against the guilty after receiving report of the probe into damage to a body kept in mortuary in government general hospital here.
The minister inspected the hospital on Saturday and enquired about the incident wherein a rat damaged the eyes of a body kept in mortuary. He squarely blamed negligence of the officials for the incident.
He announced that Collector R Muthyala Raju has already ordered a probe into the incident and action would be taken against the guilty as soon as they receive the report. Out of four freezers, only one was working in the mortuary. The body was kept outside in the mortuary resulting in the damage of eyes by rat.
The other version is the freezer has a hole which caused the rat to enter and damage the eyes of the body. Whichever maybe the case, the government apologised on the incident to the relatives though they did not raise the issue, the minister announced.
Bringing the three other freezers into use was the mistake of the hospital officials. He would not tolerate anybody trying to bring bad name to the state government, the minister said. He said that the State government would sack contractor and staff, if they were found responsible for the incident.
