Eluru: A sports meeting for the differently-abled persons was organised on a grand scale here on Thursday. Launching the meet, Joint Collector M Venugopal Reddy called upon differently-abled persons to excel in all fields by availing various schemes extended to them by the government.

Stating that differently-abled were second to none, he said the sports meet would bring out the innate talent in them. The abilities of differently-abled are on par with others and with dedication and self-confidence they can achieve all things in life. "They don't need any sympathy. Encouragement and support are all their families and society can offer to see them grow to highest levels in sAociety," the JC said.

V Prasada Rao, Assistant Director of Department for the welfare of differently-abled informed that 16 voluntary organizations and 23 differently-abled welfare associations extended their help for the success of the meet in which about 700 players participated.

The winners of the competitions will be given prizes at a function held to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3. Similarly, those who showed extraordinary talent would be allowed to take part in state-level competitions, he added.
