Eye donation rally organised in Kakinada

Kakinada: An eye donation rally was taken out here on Sunday as part of 34th National Eye Donation Fortnight. The Eye Donation Fortnight celebrations commenced from August 25 and concluded on Sunday.

The District Collector, M Muralidhar Reddy flagged off the rally organized by the Rangaraya Medical College students. The rally commenced at Two-Town Police Station. Collector Reddy said as many as 85,846 people made a pledge and submitted promising letters to donate their eyes and also 48 corneas have been gathered during this 15 days.

He said that more than 12.5 lakh people lost their vision due to cornea problems. Among these, youth form majority. He exhorted the people to take nutritious food with Vitamin A. He said that the government was taking out rallies to enlighten the people on taking precautionary steps to protect eyes.

The District Medical and Health Officer Dr Satya Suseela, Rangaraya Medical College principal Dr R Mahalakshmi, Dr Muralikrishna, programme officer Mallikarjuna Babu, Eye Bank chairman Badam Balakrishna and students participated.
