Dist Collector flags off anti-plastic bags rally in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector Mohammad Imtiaz appealed to the people to put an end to the use of plastic carry bags as it was a threat to the environment.

The Collector flagged off an anti-plastic awareness rally at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that by using single use plastic carry bags, people were unknowingly exposing themselves to diseases like cancer, and is also a threat to the environment. The plastic carry bags usage can be stopped only by taking it as a movement and awareness should be created to the school and college students, said the Collector.

Central MLA Malladi Vishnu said that the government under the leadership of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is committed to ban plastic carry bags across the state. He said that it is possible only when the people feel the responsibility to stop using plastic carry bags.

VMC Commissioner V Prasaanna Venkatesh and other officials, school and college students participated in the awareness rally.
