Ganesh Samithi fumes at restrictions on immersion in Kakinada

Kakinada: The Nagara Ganesh Utsava Samithi and BJP accused the YSRC government of paving the way for religious discord in the society. Nagara Ganesh Utsava Samithi held a meeting at Duggirala Vari street on Sunday where it expressed resentment over the stance of officials and also public representatives on immersion of Ganesh idols.

Presiding over the meeting, Samithi president Duvvuri Subrahmanyam said that immersion was being performed at Vinayaka Sagar in Jagannaickpur for the past 30 years, but the officials of Kakinada Municipal Corporation were now trying to obstruct it to be in the good books of ruling party.

He warned of agitation by Samithi if the officials create any hurdles to the immersion programme on any pretext. He said when they met agriculture minister Kurasala Kanna Babu on the restrictions, he said he would not intervene in the limits of Kakinada Urban MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy and when they met Chandrasekhara Reddy he said that he would not interfere in administrative matters.

BJP district president Y Malakondaiah alleged that officials are dancing to the tune of YSRCP leaders. Samithi honorary president Dusarlapudi Ramana Raju blamed Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao for immersion tussle.

He said that when Vanamadi was MLA, he proposed shifting of immersion venue last year. BJP city president Ch Srinivas, Samithi members G Kalyana Kumar and others were present.
