Garbage in drains irks civic chief

Vijayawada: Municipal Commissioner M Rama Rao on Tuesday ordered the health department officials to issue show-cause notice to a sanitary inspector for not discharging duties properly. As part of the filed level inspection, the VMC commissioner visited One town area Brahmin street, Poolabhavi street, Gulam Mohiuddin road, Hanumantha Rao fish market, Davala Raja Rao vegitable market, Ganapathi Rao road and Shaik Rajasahaib hospital street, Kothapeta.

On noticing the garbage dumped in the side canals, the Commissioner, who was irritated ordered the officials to issue a show-cause notice to the sanitary inspector. He said all the sanitary inspectors should see to it that there should be a free flow of drain water in the side canals without any obstruction. Garbage from the side canals should be removed regularly, he said.

On observing the side canals filled with vegetable garbage at Davala Rama Rao vegetable market, the Commissioner expressed his anger and ordered the sanitary staff to keep the surroundings clean. Later, he visited Kamal Vilas centre.

On noticing construction material lying on the road blocking the road, the Commissioner ordered the concerned officer to impose fine of Rs 5,000 on the house owner. Zonal Commissioner Srinivas Rao, sanitary officers and others were present.
