Kurnool: Rich tributes paid to Alluri Seetharama Raju
Kurnool: The 123rd birth anniversary (Jayanthi) of Alluri Seetharama Raju was celebrated on a grand note across the district on Saturday. District Collector G Veera Pandiyan garlanded the portrait of Seetharama Raju and paid rich tributes at Tribal Welfare office.
He said Alluri Seetharama Raju was a dauntless warrior who had hailed from tribal background. He fought against the British for the rights of tribal people and also for independence of the country. Unfortunately, he lost his life at the younger age of 27 year. Every one of us needs to be inspired by his sacrifice, said Veera Pandiyan.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) leaders also celebrated Seetharamaraju Jayanthi. The leaders said Alluri Seetharama Raju was born on 4 July 1897 at Pandrangi village in Visakhapatnam. His parents, Venkata Ramaraju and Suryanarayanamma have educated him up to 9th class. He was an expert horse rider.
Alluri had also strove for the welfare of tribal people and motivated them to fight with unity against the British rulers. He and his associates revolted against the British rulers. The British rulers to take revenge on Seetharama Raju began torturing the innocent tribal people. Seetharama Raju had surrendered on 7 May 1924 at Mampa village in Visakhapatnam. The British soldiers had killed him after tying him to a tree, the leaders said.
District secretary Hussain Basha, Rajesh, Imtyaz, S shiva, Irfan, Shiva, Shaik Sha Vali, Basha, Hussain Bi and others participated.
