Left campaign for boycott of NPR begins in Eluru
Eluru: Left parties, including CPI, CPM, CPI-ML-New Democracy, here on Thursday started a door-to-door campaign with a call to boycott the Union government's National Population Register (NPR) commencing on April 1.
The parties urged people not to divulge details to the enumerators who approach them as part of the NPR as it was intended to divide people on religious lines. They charged the BJP government at the Centre with bringing Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to deny citizenship to minorities and suppressed sections of society. Through NPR and National Register of Citizens (NRC) the BJP was trying to deny citizenship to people belonging to Hindus, besides Muslims.
The leaders explained to people that BJP and Sangh Pariwar were bent on dividing people on religious lines and implementing NPR, NRC and CAA in a systematic manner. In Assam alone, out of 19 lakh people who could not prove their citizenship under NRC, Hindus constitute majority of 15 lakh. People should understand the hidden agenda of the BJP which was more interested in inciting communal feelings rather than addressing key problems of unemployment, poor economy, poverty and suicides of farmers.
