Police to step up vigil in seacoast: SP
Srikakulam: In the wake of frequent drowning incidents along the seacoast in the district, the police department is planning to step up vigil to prevent missing and drowning cases, with the coordination of marine police and fisheries department. The police also planned to set up a control room at Kalingapatnam and searching for a suitable location.
According to sources, the control room is likely to be set up at Kalingapatnam marine police station or at Tourism centre in Gara mandal. At the control room, the police are planning to arrange communication system with latest available tools including lifesaving jackets, balloons, ropes and float vehicles.
In the second stage, control rooms will be set up at Baruva and Bhavanapadu marine police stations also. The department is also planning to maintain supervision at beach areas where public footfall is more on auspicious days, with country-made boats in sea water.
If any untoward incident happened, immediately the police will launch search operations to rescue the persons. Marine police suggested vigil with water scooter in beach areas with lifesaving material. "We are studying pros and cons to implement preventive methods all along the coastal areas" Superintendent of Police R N Ammi Reddy told The Hans India.
