RWS engineer visits Thotapalli village
Thotapalli (Vizianagaram): The story published in The Hans India on 'Water scarcity in Thotapalli reservoir' area has drawn the attention of district administration including the Collector and Rural Water Supply officials.
An assistant executive engineer of RWS has visited Thotapalli and Khadgavalasa on Wednesday and observed the conditions of those villages and how the people are struggling for drinking water.
The irrigation department has stopped flowing of water in left channel to undertake cement concrete lining in Thotapalli reservoir. As a result, the ground water in the area is drastically come down.
Most borewells and open wells were completely dried up.
After reading the story in The Hans India, Collector M Harijawaharlal instructed the RWS staff to take proper steps on the issue.
Based on the instructions, RWS superintending engineer Gayatri Devi directed the assistant engineer P Rahul to visit the village and send a report on the ground situation.
Rahul visited Thotapalli and Khadgavalasa villages and noticed how the people are struggling about the drinking water even though they are living on banks of river Nagavali.
Environmental activist Dr D Parinaidu along with locals met him and expressed their displeasure over the proposed cement concrete lining works for left channel, which resulted in severe water scarcity here. Rahul told that he would take initiatives to solve the problem and take this issue to the notice of senior officials.
