Vizianagaram: Collector M Harijawaharlal starts farming at vacant land in camp office
Vizianagaram: District Collector M Harijawaharlal has started farming in the vacant land available at the camp office as the district is receiving good rains for the past few days in the kharif season.
He ploughed the land with bullocks and sowed seeds, green gram, horse gram, black gram, cowpea, Bengal gram, by scattering them over the surface of soil.
Speaking on the occasion, the collector said that he would practice natural farming and won't use any chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Only cow dung would be used as manure, he stated.
"We should sow number of varieties of seeds at a time to increase the fertility of soil. Pulses crops help to increase nitrogen level in soil, which is very much needed to the plants to grow healthy. Even we are sowing green manure too.
Our aim is to encourage the natural farming in our district," he said. M Asha Devi, JDA and K Prakash, ADA and K Hemasundar, AO have participated in the programme.
