Visakhapatnam: Superintendent of Police Attada Babujee on Thursday said that stringent action will be taken against those running cracker outlets without taking prior permission from the government. He said even storage of crackers without proper safety measures is an offence.

Conducting a review meeting ahead of the Deepavali festival here on Thursday, the SP asked the officials to bring the prior cases of storing explosive material and to verify them. He stated that officials concerned should also ensure that those who sought permission to set up cracker counters should follow safety measures while manufacturing or selling them.

Laying focus on visible policing, he asked the cops to visit every such unit in their respective circle and ensure that there were no lapses in monitoring the same.

Later, Babujee presented merit and cash rewards to B Chandrashekar, sub-inspector of Ravikamatham for booking 57 cases, the highest number in September. He also presented merit awards to cops who maintained law and order in their respective circles.
