Stop mugging up lessons, Collector tells students in Nellore

Nellore: District Collector MV Seshagiri Babu exhorted the students to understand lessons rather than learning by memorisation and recitation techniques. He formally launched Rajanna Badibata programme at DSR Zilla Parishad School here on Wednesday.

Babu suggested to learn things through inquisitiveness and quizzing for overall understanding of subjects and not for obtaining marks that go a long way in their lives.

The Collector stated that there is a need to remember lessons learned in previous classes for more clarity in the present classes. He suggested sharing their happy moments with other students in the school spent during the summer holidays.

The official directed the teachers and heads of the schools to conduct teacher-parent interactions and avail help from the local non-government organisations for making the school a live one. He said the aim of the Badibata programme is to enrol the dropout students from the schooling.

District Education Officer B Samuel said that last year 2.3 lakh students joined the government schools and this year it would be around 2.5 lakh. we are focusing on increasing the number of enrolments every year, he added.

Samuel said the State government had released Rs 62 crore for development activities in the schools and they are going to provide books, uniforms and cycles to students.

School headmistress Jayamma said that they are organising Badibata from June 12 to 15 in the area. SSA Project Director Narasimha Reddy, Deputy DEO Ahmed, MEO Jagadish, headmasters Venkateswara Rao, Gopala Rao, Lakshmi Prasanna and Jayabharathi, Community Mobilisation Officer Srinivas, Coordinator Purnachandra Rao and other officials were present.
