Transform schools into knowledge centres, officials told PS B Rajasekhar

Eluru: Education department Principal Secretary B Rajasekhar has directed the District Collectors and DEOs to develop as many as 15,715 government schools in the State into knowledge centres under the first phase of 'Manabadi Nadu-Nedu' programme, the flagship educational programme for school students.

He convened a videoconference with the District Collectors and DEOs from the Secretariat on Monday evening and explained the steps to be taken during three phases of the programme.

District Collector R Muthyala Raju, DEO CV Renuka, several engineers and others attended the videoconference.

Rajasekhar informed the officials that about 45,000 government schools would be developed under the programme during next three years. Under the first phase, the selected schools would be given a facelift in nine aspects.

Construction of toilets with running water, provision of fans and lights with electric supply, safe water supply, furniture for teachers and pupils, painting of buildings, attending repairs, green chalk boards, English labs and construction of compound walls would be taken up during the year.

Works should be taken up under the supervision of school children's parents committees and engineering officials of various departments. He asked the DEOs to submit estimates with details of schools with the help of software to carry forward the works under the programme.
