Vijayawada/ Rajamahendravaram: Members of Indian Association of Lawyers and Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Association staged a protest demonstration here on Friday demanding immediate formation of the State Human Rights Commission.

Addressing the gathering, Indian Association of Lawyers general secretary Chalasani Ajay Kumar said that the state government has not formed the SHRC though the high court ordered its formation long back.

He recalled that the advocate general assured the high court that the commission would be formed in a couple of months when public interest litigation was filed last year. However, the SHRC was not materialised even after one year.

Meanwhile in Rajamahendravaram, APCLA state president M Subba Rao demanded the state government to establish State Human Rights Commission as per the judgement of high court. APCLA and All India Lawyers Union members on Friday staged a protest here wearing black badges and expressed their displeasure over government attitude despite HC orders on establishment of SHRC. He said for the last four years, the SHRC has not been functioning. Despite the high court instructions for the establishment of SHRC in AP, it has been ignored and no action has been taken till now for it. He demanded that the government should set up SHRC immediately without further delay.
