Visakhapatnam: Committee formed to prevent industrial mishaps
Visakhapatnam: District Collector V Vinay Chand said that after the Covid-19 lockdown, industrial managements should start their operations only after a complete verification of safety standards.
The District Collector said that a committee has been formed at district-level to take steps to prevent industrial accidents. Further, he stated the government had issued orders to set up committees in the district as per the recommendations of the High-Power Committee.
The district-level committee is chaired by the Joint Collector and Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, Inspector of Boilers, Regional Officer, AP Pollution Control Board, the Deputy Electrical Inspector and the District Fire Officer will be the members. The general manager of the District Industries Centre acts as the member convener. The industries are required to submit the report in the prescribed proforma as per the rules and regulations mentioned.
Vinay Chand stated that the committee would conduct a special drive and look into safety standards and environmental standards in the industries. In the first phase, the committee will include inspections of chemical, chemical storage, manufacturing, explosives manufacturing, petroleum industries and the industries that fall under red category and submit monthly reports.
Vinay Chand added that the committee would bring important issues to the fore from time to time as well as submit reports to the government on the safety of the industries.
