YSR Kanti Velugu scheme launched in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: VMC Commissioner V Prasanna Venkatesh inaugurated the prestigious project taken up by the State government 'YSR Kanti Velugu' at Boyapati Sivaramakrishnaiah Municipal School here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Venkatesh said that the State government would be conducting eye check-ups to everyone and would provide spectacles to the needy and would also perform surgeries to the people to prevent blindness. Eye check up will be done to all the students under this programme.
He said that school students should take care of their eyes and have to be very careful in dealing with them as eyes are essential for reading purposes. Eyes were extremely sensitive organs and get damaged very easily. To protect the eyes, people should take food rich in Vitamin A, he added.
The Commissioner said that initially, eye checks up would be conducted at all the private and government schools from October 10 to 16. Awareness programmes would also be conducted to educate the students on the precautionary measures to be taken to protect eye sight. Spectacles will be distributed to the students who suffer from vision problem in November and December, said the Commissioner.
