Handloom weavers felicitate designer

The Handloom Weavers of India recently commended the national award winner fashion designer Gaurang Shah for his work in the film Telugu film 'Mahanati' and winning the National Award for best the best costume design.

Chief guest Jayesh Ranjan , principal secretary, IT and Industries in his address after felicitating the national award winner for his costume design work in the film said the state is proud to have committed designer like Gaurang, who continue to encourage weaving community to pursue their tradition and uplift their economic status.

He added, "The government has an encouragement policy towards handlooms, handicrafts; with the establishment of various training and skill development programs for the artisans.

For further development of handlooms. More consumption will lead to more production."

For over 20 years the self-taught textile and fashion designer Gaurang Shah has revived traditional textile design and contemporised Indian Handlooms using the versatile Jamdani weaving technique working with over 800 weavers in India.

The weavers expressed their appreciation for turning around the community and modernising handlooms in a big way without losing the legacy and purity.

Thanking his weavers who stood by him and supporting his handlooms design movement, Gaurang urged the government to establish a weaving school to further strengthen the community and build faith amongst artisans towards their craft. He dedicated all his achievement to his family, weavers and designers who stood by his passion and pursuit.

The weavers in their address to the gathering spoke how Gaurang has been rendering services to handloom weavers and handloom sector for the last two decades.

He has created good name and popularity to handloom sarees at international levels. A weaver also said he has bolstered the morale of him and his community by instilling faith in their work.
