Drive to clear C&D wastes from Nov 20

Hyderabad: Following overwhelming response to the special drive to collect scrap from households, the municipal administration and urban development department has directed to conduct a 10-day special drive for collection of construction and demolition (C&D) wastes from all public places under GHMC purview.

The special drive will be conducted from November 20 to November 29. "A recycling plant for C&D wastes was developed at Jeedimetla with Rs 12 crore. It recycles 50 tonne wastes in one hour.

After the recycling of wastes, there will be no problem of C&D wastes in the city," said Mayor Bonthu Rammohan. He added that vehicles which throw large amount of C&D wastes on roads will be penalised.

It may be recalled that nearly 235 metric tonnes of scrap was collected by the GHMC officials during the just concluded special sanitation drive. People rushed to the GHMC vehicles and gave away the wastes in their houses. As noticed from field inspection, field functionaries concerned are not paying requisite attention to the issue of unauthorised dumping of debris by the public in both residential and commercial areas.

It is also noticed that penalties are not imposed on a regular basis and no proper monitoring is being done, leading to formation of C&D Vulnerable Points (CDVP) across the city. Hyderabad C&D Waste Pvt Ltd (HCDWPL) is the concessionaire for C&D project of GHMC.

It is found that no pickup slips are being generated by the authorised officials (AMOHs) due to which the 25-tonne vehicles engaged by them are lying idle. Field functionaries shall take responsibility to re-heap smaller quantities of debris lying at inaccessible points into a reasonable size such that the same shall be lifted by the vehicles of HCDWPL.
