Hyderabad: 30,000 cops deployed in city for GHMC elections 2020
Hyderabad: The police department has deployed around 30,000 police personnel to ensure that the GHMC elections which are scheduled to be held in December are conducted smoothly and in a peaceful manner. The deployment includes police officers from different wings of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Commissionerate in the city. Apart from it, additional forces from TSSP, Armed Reserve, and other wings of the Telangana police have been positioned in the city.
A senior police officer said that 257 polling stations at 73 locations have been identified as critical and 1,004 polling stations in 308 locations have been identified as hypersensitive. The categorization is done based on the incidents reported earlier at these polling stations and by considering other security aspects.
Police commissioner, Anjani Kumar, noted, "The Code of Conduct for GHMC elections has already been enforced and security forces have been deputed to returning offices where candidates will file nominations.
Additional forces will be deployed to guard polling booths, counting centers and the strong rooms where the ballot boxes will be kept till the counting day. Also, special check-posts and police pickets are being set up in sensitive areas and the police have also increased patrolling in the areas. Static surveillance teams, striking forces, and special teams have also been positioned in these areas to avoid any untoward incidents."
