Hyderabad & Bhagyanagar in Twitter fight
Hyderabad: Numerous tweets with hashtag GHMC elections (#GHMC elections) were trending while the elections results fluctuated from one party to other during counting on Friday.
Interestingly, in the first half of the day #Bhagyanagar and #BJP, which was on top trending after the postal ballot results were being announced, went down and the car (TRS symbol) hit the saffron flags with #Hyderabad and #TRS.
It may be mentioned here that BJP had pitched the poll campaign seeking to change the city's name from Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar, to attract voters craving for a change. With the same slogan, BJP opted for the GHMC elections. In fact, the saffron leaders addressed Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar in their campaigns as well.
Moreover, after the postal ballot results showed the saffron party bagging 90 divisions during counting, netizens created a trend with #Bhgayanagar with BJP, wishing #BJP for its success and welcoming the national party to Telangana.
One of the twitter handlers, Samer, hailing the BJP leaders for its victory wrote, "It's Bhagyanagar next time for sure 100 %. This time we are excited with Bhagyanagar, Well done @bandisanjay_bjp & team. Of course! Voters of #Bhagyanagar, 4 to 40+ is massive #GHMC results.
Immediately, the social media was abuzz with comments. The pro-BJP followers used the hashtag #Bhagyanagar in their comments. This hashtag was trending. Some even commented that if BJP bags the GHMC Mayor seat, for sure the city's name would be changed to Bhagyanagar.
However, post noon, the trends changed and TRS was leading in nearly 70 divisions, but the counting took more time than anticipated because of the ballot voting. The trending of #Bhagyanagar turned as a troll in the hands of the TRS followers, as sarcastic tweets poured in claiming victory of TRS over BJP.
Explaining the trend for the day in two lines, Ravi Patel tweets "Subah #Bhagyanagar chale gaye the. Sham ko #Hyderabad me hi rahna pada."
Another Hyderabadi, Rahul tweets "Hyderabad ko Bhagyanagar Pasand nai aya"
However, BJP's count from four seats in 2016 to 49 in 2020 is a massive victory, say netizens. R Kesava Raman Yadav wrote, "Great Work #BJP.. From 4 to 44. - Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Election. #Bhagyanagar #GHMCElection2020 #BJP4GHMC Thank You Hyderabad. Congratulations to all Karyakartas.."
Downfall of TRS at 6 pm led to trolling of TRS, as one Twitter handler wrote "Regional affection does not work every time," tagging TRS.
However, the trending on Twitter saw diverse support for both the parties on a single day. The netizens enjoyed swiping the trends and trolls between BJP and TRS.
