Hyderabad: DGP warns against provocative speeches

Photo: Adula Krishna: Police Director-General M Mahendar Reddy said on Thursday that the department was investigating the possibility of taking legal action against those making offensive speeches. He said the inflammatory speeches made by politicians were under legal scrutiny while communicating with the media.

Replying to a query on the 'surgical strike' statement by BJP State president Bandi Sanjay, the DGP noted, "All the speeches were under legal examination be it from any political party. Once the legal opinion from experts is handed over to us the booking of cases against such persons will begin under the rightful sections."

He further said that the case against BJP MP Tejaswi Surya was booked based on a complaint from the Registrar of Osmania University and if such complaints are received from anyone about other leaders then they will also be booked.

Anti-social elements trying to give communal colour

DGP Mahender Reddy said that the police department had received intelligence reports on anti-social elements trying to give communal colour to the elections. He noted, "Our sole aim is to let the elections happen in a peaceful manner and every citizen exercise his franchise without any fear from anyone.

We got reports about some anti-social elements trying to disrupt the peace and harmony of the society by indulging in communal issues. Such forces are also indulged in inciting communal hatred amongst the voters."

The DGP informed that, "A total of 62 cases were booked against Rohingyas for fraudulently obtaining Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, passports etc, and some were already convicted. A total of 51,500 cops from all departments are deployed on election duty and every cop has been instructed to work without discrimination towards any party.
