Hyderabad: Vasavi Enclave bugged by open nala, narrow roads
Alwal: A host of civic issues are plaguing the residents of Vasavi Enclave in Old Alwal. While the open nala and open manholes in the colony call for immediate attention of civic authorities, the issue of encroachment of open plots and narrow internal roads also seeks redressal.
According to residents, whenever it rains, the dirty water from the open nala and the manholes inundate the colony roads with water sometimes flooding the houses. With no proper drainage system in place, the problem reoccurs during every monsoon.
"The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation always gives us a barrage of excuses for not taking up works. It becomes impossible to walk on roads during rains as the sewage spewed from the nala and the manholes make the roads slippery. Further, the stench from these open drains makes it difficult for us to even step out of our houses," said Ramesh, president of Vasavi Enclave. "Apart from the sewage issue, illegal encroachment is another problem we are vexed up with. An open plot in our colony, which was marked for building an old age home, was encroached by some unidentified persons. They even built a wall around it. Though we took the issue to the notice of GHMC, they have turned a blind eye to it," said a resident of Vasavi Enclave.
"All the internal roads in the colony are narrow. Several times we urged the civic body to lay interlock tiles on both sides of these road so that people can walk without getting into the muck on the road. However, no pleas could move them. We also requested the authorities to provide gym equipment and a proper flooring for yoga for our community hall. Though we chipped in money and built the community hall, we could not get the gym equipment sanctioned by the GHMC. The demand has now been on papers for many years," rued another resident of Vasavi Enclave.
