MP's kind gesture to disabled people

Zaheerabad: In a generous move, MP BB Patil is readying battery-operated tricycles for the disabled in the constituency. The cycles need to be peddled continuously.

To make the disabled more comfortable with their vehicles, the MP took up an initiative to distribute battery-operated tricycles to them. The vehicles will be distributed to the people with 80 per cent disability in Zaheerabad, Kamareddy, Andole, Yellareddy, Jukkal, Narayankhed, Bansuvada.

The beneficiaries were identified in February. Each vehicle costing about Rs 40,000 are manufactured in Kanpur. They are being procured under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase scheme. A battery vehicle can cover up to 45 km once charged. It can carry a person of 80 kg and has a maximum speed of 22 kmph.

Officials are making arrangements for the distribution. As many as 480 beneficiaries in Kamareddy and Sangareddy districts which fall under Zaheerabad constituency will be given these vehicles. A total budget of 177.6 lakh was spent on this purpose. The MP contributed Rs 57.6 lakh from MPLADS.

Speaking to The Hans India, the MP said: "The disabled people have to depend on their attendants to meet us. I wish they should move with a pride and should not depend on others. Earlier also I distributed some vehicles. New vehicles will be distributed soon.".
