Hyderabad: With identical symbols affecting the chances of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in successive elections, the ruling party leaders on Monday urged the State Election Commission to be cautious while allotting symbols and also keep an eye on the propaganda in social media.

A delegation of TRS leaders led by Telangana Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar met the State Election Commissioner C Parthasarathi on Monday. They urged the commissioner to be cautious with the allotment of symbols in the ensuing GHMC elections.

Vinod Kumar pointed out that the voters are getting confused as there are symbols identical to the car symbol of TRS and this is resulting in a loss to the party. Earlier, during the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the party candidates had to lose the elections because of the identical symbols like auto, truck, and road roller.

The Election Commission had removed the symbols from the list after a representation from the party, said Vinod. He also raised the 'roller pin' symbol, which had affected the chances of the party in the recent Dubbaka bypoll. Keeping all these in mind the TRS leader urged the SEC to remove the identical symbols to that of the car symbol of TRS from the list of common symbols.

The TRS leaders also wanted the SEC to keep a vigil on the social media propaganda. He said that the law and order situation in the city was best during the last six years. "People from different parts of the country are living here peacefully. Few forces are trying to create differences between the communities through social media. There is a need to keep an eye on such miscreants," said Vinod. Party leaders C Laxma Reddy, M Sreenivas Reddy and Bharat were also present.
