Gachibowli: The Swachh Centre (Dry Waste Collection Centre) was inaugurated by Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan in the presence of MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, Harichandana, the Zonal Commissioner, GHMC-Serilingampally, at Biodiversity Flyover here.

The centre is supported by Aurobindo Pharma Foundation as part of its CSR programme. It is a joint initiative of GHMC and Sukuki Exnora, an NGO associated with solid waste management.

The centre, uniquely set up under the flyover, will provide storage facilities for dry waste such as paper, plastic, metal and glass. It will meet the storage needs of the SAT (Swachh Auto Trolley) drivers and allow them the advantages of sharing transport costs and better price for the recyclables.

The Mayor said DRCC was the need of the hour in view of increasing urbanisation. He appreciated the CSR initiative of Aurobindo Pharma Foundation. Hari Chandana said the centre was established as part of the 10-day Recylathon programme which was taken up at the directions of the Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao. She further made an appeal to corporate entities to support DRCC.

The centre has a storage space of over 2,000 sft, is equipped with separate enclosures for paper, plastic, metal, E-waste, floral waste and glass recyclables. There is a facility for 10 SAT drivers and would provide employment to about 20 persons. It can handle a capacity of 10 tonne waste per day. Rainwater harvesting facility is also included. Swachh workers are provided with safety equipment like gloves, masks, uniform and caps.
