MLA's camp office demolished in Warangal due to nala widening works
Warangal: Putting to rest the simmering criticism surrounding an illegal structure owned by Wardhannapet MLA Aroori Ramesh, the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) authorities on Tuesday demolished it.
Ever since the civic body has taken up the special drive to demolish illegal structures on storm-water drains (nalahs) in the city following the directions of MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao, the social media is agog with trolls pitched against some ruling party leaders who allegedly built structures encroaching upon nalahs. The Hans India has carried a story on encroachments on nalahs in the city on August 29, titled – 'Will officials dare to touch TRS netas' too?'
Then it was reported that the MLA's office located near tyre retreading centre, Hunter Road, was obstructing the nalah. There was also an effort to lay a pipeline on a war-footing note to divert the floodwaters that inundated the area. Later, the MLA who refuted the allegations against him that he had encroached upon a nalah to construct his office, said that he had registered it in 2001.
The GWMC City Planning Officer M Narsimha Ramulu said, "The engineers who carried a survey advised the authorities to remove the structure. The MLA has also agreed for the demolition of his office. Following which the Disaster Response Force (DRF) team razed the structure."
So far, 67 structures encroached upon nalahs have been demolished by the civic body. The demolition drive started when torrential rains lashed the city inundating several colonies in mid-August bringing the entire administration to its knees with people from all quarters expressing dissatisfaction over the fate of civic infra. KTR who inspected the city then instructed the authorities to raze all the illegal structures that have come up on storm-water drains.
