Opposition Parties Issue Notices Over Delhi Riots In Rajya Sabha
New Delhi: The Opposition parties led by the Congress served multiple notices on Thursday, seeking discussion on the Delhi violence in the Rajya Sabha. Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma of the Congress issued suspension of business notice in Rajya Sabha under rule 267 over "the need to provide relief to the violence affected families in Delhi and set up an independent inquiry commission." Congress leader Kapil Sibal sought a discussion on the outcome of the visit by Donald Trump.
The Trinamool Congress TMC also gave suspension of business notice amping up the heat on the government for a discussion on the violent incidents which rocked the national capital for three days beginning February 23. The TMC has given its suspension of business notice in Rajya Sabha under rule 267 to discuss the "healing needed after deaths in Delhi."
Sanjay Singh, Rajya Sabha member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also given suspension of business notice in the Upper house under rule 267 over a discussion on the Delhi violence.
The DMK's T. Siva, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav and Javed Ali Khan and CPI MP Binoy Viswam, are among other leaders who have given suspension of business notice in the Upper House over the subject of violent incidents in Delhi.
In Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla has scheduled the debate on the Delhi riots for March 11 after the festival of Holi. The Opposition, however, is determined not to allow normal business of the House till the government agrees to an urgent discussion on the Delhi violence.
