Top priority for coastal security, says Collector

Kakinada: East Godavari Collector Karthikeya Misra has underscored the need to beef up security all along the coastline in the district, which is the need of the hour. The security system laid down in this regard should be executed strictly.

Participating in district-level coastal security review meeting here on Saturday, he said that Indian Coast Guard and Marine police should work in coordination with the former in this regard. The government was giving top priority relating to coastal security and advised the departments to share the information.

He directed the officials to give colour coating to the boats of fishermen for easy recognition and issue biometric cards to fishermen without delay. So far, biometric cards were issued to 50,000 fishermen and underlined the need to start a centre in Kakinada in this regard.

The Collector also asked the officials of Fisheries department to arrange nets to fishing boats to protect Oilver Ridely turtles as many of them were dying because of fishing boats. Officials of Indian Coast Guard, Marine and Police departments were present.
