`408 cr allocated for Vadarevu fishing harbor
Chirala: “The state government wants to construct fishing harbor at the Vadarevu, near Chirala,” said the officials and local MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan. The MLA, Joint Collector S Naga Laskhmi, Fisheries Department Commissioner Naik visited the Vadarevu beach on Wednesday to identify the suitable ground for the construction of the harbour.
The Chirala MLA, Amanchi Krishna Mohan and other representatives from the area are requesting the government to construct a harbor to help the local fishermen for more than a decade. Their proposals were approved recently and the MLA announced that the government sanctioned the harbor at Vadarevu and the works would begin soon.
The Commissioner of Fisheries Department tried to create awareness in the local fishermen about the harbor, its uses and functionality. The MLA said that about 1000 mechanised boats and regular fishing boats can be stopped at the harbor to sell or ship the catch. He told the locals that a team of fishermen would be taken to other harbors to let them understand the functioning.
The Joint Collector, S Nagalakshmi said, “A number of facilities would be provided to the fishermen villages along with the harbor. I expect that the harbor would provide more livelihood options to the locals.” The Ongole RDO, Kamma Srinivasa Rao, officials from the revenue and fisheries departments gathered at the meeting.
