Increase micro-irrigation to 14 lakh ha: Collector

Kakinada: District Collector Kartikeya Mishra on Wednesday ordered the officials of micro irrigation and horticulture to increase the micro-irrigated area by encouraging the farmers to use the sprinklers and sprayers.

While speaking at the review meeting with horticulture and micro-irrigation officials at Vidhana Gowthami hall at Collectorate, Mishra said that this district was in the second position in the state in running the micro-irrigated area in 4.46 lakh hectares(ha).

Mishra ordered the officials to increase the irrigated area to 14 lakh hectares. The collector informed, “With the adaptation of this method in farming the farmers could get maximum yield with minimum expenses.’

He ordered the officials to give priority to SC and ST farmers in implementing the micro irrigation schemes and pay special attention in Amalapuram division in implementing the micro irrigation schemes. Assistant Collector Anand, Joint Collector 2 Radha Krishna Murthy, APMIP Project Director S Rama Mohana Rao, Assistant Director Horticulture K Gopi Kumar, Drip company representatives attended the review meeting with other officials.
