Swachh Sarvekshan team tours city from today

Rajamahendravaram: A quality control team of Swachh Sarvekshan, is coming to the city on a three-day visit from Saturday. The team will visit every locality of the City, to inspect sanitation works, outside toilets including school toilets, vermi compost units etc and interact with the people. The teams used to visit the cities for a few hours. But this time, they will be staying in the city for three days.

Speaking to reporters in the corporation office here on Friday, Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) Commissioner Vegesna Vijayarama Raju said that two to three teams visit the city and they would go around the city as per the directions from their head office, without the knowledge of corporation officials.

Last year, the corporation bagged 46th rank out of 484 cities across the country and expecting good rank. This year, the teams would inspect about 4,000 cities across the country. For the past four months, the corporation put its efforts to maintain sanitation properly to obtain good rank this year also. About 40 percent marks will be added as per the people's response.

All the wings of the corporation had involved in Swachh Sarvekshan programme for four months. Three mechanised escalators were arranged to clear garbage in the drains and ONGC came forward to provide another escalator. The corporation officials have been monitoring the sanitation works through command control room. The ONGC also assured to clean all bathing ghats in the city with its machinery.

Three sweeping machines will be pressed into service shortly after imparting training to the drivers. Plans are on the cards to combat the dog menace as well. The corporation has been shifting stray cattle to Bobbilanka of Sitanagaram mandal to avoid problems to the people. The civic chief appealed to the people to extend their cooperation to get good rank in the country relating to Swachh Sarvekshan programme.
