Doctors’ absence on duty to be treated seriously

Kakinada: District Collector Kartikeya Mishra ordered the Government General Hospital Superintendent Raghavendra Rao to improve and renovate the power system and internal wiring system in the hospital to put an immediate end to the short circuit problem.

He participated in the hospital development committee (HDC) meeting at the Superintendent’s chamber in GGH on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mishra ordered the APSMHIDC (Andhra Pradesh State Medical and Health Infrastructure Development Corporation) Executive Engineer Keshava Rao and Superintendent to take rapid steps to stop the repetition of such short circuit incidents which was occurred a couple of days earlier in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The Collector immediately sanctioned Rs 25 lakh for the repairs, rectification and maintenance of electricity in the hospital. He further ordered them to start the works by March 2 after calling the tenders.

He suggested them to check the voltage fluctuations in the hospital and ordered them to establish voltage stabilisers whenever needed. He expressed his anger over the TBS engineers on malfunctioning of valuable medical equipment like baby warmers, ventilators and incubators in the hospital. He ordered the engineers to restore all the life-saving equipment within 10 days and also suggested to keep a stock of spare parts of the life support equipment.

The Collector threatened the doctors to initiate severe punishment over their absenteeism while on their duties in the hospital. He ordered the GGH Superintendent to submit a detailed inventory report on all types of equipment that are at the GGH at present. 

He also ordered the Superintendent to take instant steps to establish duty boards to display the duty doctor’s name, photograph and their phone numbers on those boards in all the wards. JC Mallikarjuna, RMC principal Maha Lakshmi, KMC Commissioner Siva Parvathi and doctors participated.
