Boat building yard to be restored
Kakinada: District Collector Kartikeya Mishra has said the administration will take steps to restore the boat building yard at Jagannadhapuram, as a part of the smart city development.
He visited the abandoned boat building yard along with MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao, officials of KMC and Fisheries department here on Thursday evening.
Speaking on this occasion, Mishra explained that yesteryears fishermen used to build the wooden boats at the building yard but now they were constructing their boats outside of this yard. Mishra informed that the administration would restore the dilapidated sheds and others structure at the boatyard soon to encourage the fishermen to build their boats.
In this connection, Mishra ordered the corporation SE that they should take the opinions of the boat builders after convening a meeting of stakeholders.Mishra suggested the elders of the fishermen community that they should build their boats only in the building yard and not at place of their choice.
Later, Mishra inspected the age-old Jagannadhapuram bridge and told that they would also renovate the bridge for beautification.
Rajahmundry Corporation Commissioner Vijaya Rama Raju, KMC SE Vijaya Kumar, Fisheries Department In-charge JD Jaya Rao, boat owners and others accompanied the Collector during his visit.
