Fearing separation from minor wife, 20-yr-old ends life in police station
Repalle (Guntur district): A 20-year -old man committed suicide on police station premises over failure of love affair here on Thursday night. The incident came to light on Friday.
According to police, Yaragandla Srinivasa Rao, a resident of Gudikayalanka village of Repalle mandal fell in love with a minor girl studying Class X. They recently eloped and married and returned to the village.
However, the parents of the girl objected to their marriage and lodged a kidnap case against Srinivasa Rao in police station. The police decided to conduct counselling to them. When he was taken into custody by police, Srinivasa Rao feared that he would be separated from the girl by her parents. In the police station, he went to bathroom at 7.30 pm.
As he was not coming out of the toilet, police who grew suspicious broke open the door after two hours and found him hanging from the ceiling to a rope. He was rushed to a private hospital where succumbed.
Bapatla DSP D Gangadharam said the police had registered a case under When the youth Srinivasa Rao said the police booked a case under the POCSO (The Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act, 2012) Act following a complaint by girls parents on December 31.
“As soon as they returned to the village on January 3, the girl was handed over to their parents. We have taken Srinivasa Rao into custody as the case was registered. He went to toilet and hanged himself to the roof with a rope. He died while undergoing treatment in the hospital,” he said. Repalle police registered a case and took up investigation.
